Brocks Hill awarded with the School Games Platinum Award!

We are delighted to announce that Brocks Hill Primary have been awarded the prestigious School Games Platinum Award. This is a fantastic achievement and a result of the hard work and dedication of our staff, who ensure our pupils enjoy a variety of sporting opportunities during their time at school.

The School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme that rewards schools for their commitment to the development of physical education and competition across their school and into the wider community. The programme is designed to keep competitive sport at the heart of schools and provide more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best.

At Brocks Hill Primary, we value the importance of both physical health and mental health & wellbeing, as we know that healthy, happy children learn well. Competitive sport is an important focus of our active programme, as we believe that it encourages children to aim high while also developing character, resilience and teamwork skills. Participation in this scheme gives our school the chance to evaluate PE provision and assists us in developing an action plan for future progress.

Brocks Hill received this award having demonstrated excellence in the following key areas:

  • Participation – the number of young people in the school being engaged in sporting activity
  • Competition – the number of different sports played and number of competitions entered
  • Workforce – the number of pupils involved in leadership activities alongside taking part in competitions
  • Clubs – the amount of local links the school has with clubs or establishments in the area.

We use pupil voice to gauge what the children want and use that to structure our competition calendar based on the partnership competitions, tournaments and festivals. Our aim is that every child can find something they enjoy, are successful at, and are motivated to continue as part of a lifelong active lifestyle.

Last academic year we delivered an extremely busy programme of internal and external events. We participated in 33 external competitions or competitive leagues including cross country, football (boys and girls’ leagues), netball, basketball, dodgeball, hockey, tennis, golf, swimming, athletics, tag rugby, multi-skills, quad-kids, Energise and ‘This Girl Can’. We aimed to take at least two teams to every event to maximise opportunity to participate. We also participated in eight ‘virtual competitions’ with high levels of participation in all.

We’re proud of all staff who worked to achieve this award, creating positive experiences for our pupils, and of course, proud of our pupils who take part in sporting activities at Brocks Hill.
