Brocks Hill in top 200 for times table knowledge

Brocks Hill Primary School are one of the top 200 performing schools in England for times tables!

Pupils regularly practice times tables in school and at home, and at the end of Year 4, they undertake a statutory test – the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) – to monitor their progress.

The test focuses on quick recall of multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12.

A critical part of the curriculum, a strong understanding of multiplication facts is essential; both in school – for their progression in mathematics - and also in day-to-day life.

Brocks Hill pupils scored a quite remarkable average score of 24.9 out of 25 on the MTC test in the summer term of 2022, thus making them one of the top performing schools in the entire country.

Now, The Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Minister for Schools, has written to the school to praise the efforts of all involved:

“I would like both to congratulate the staff and pupils for their hard work and success…this excellent achievement is something the Government hopes to see replicated in schools across the country.

Thank you for your leadership in continuing to promote the important subject of mathematics.”
