Mathtastic multiplication knowledge

Once again Brocks Hill Primary School are among the top 200 performing schools in England for their times table knowledge.

Every year, all Year 4 pupils are required to undertake a statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in the Summer Term to monitor progress and determine the level of fluency. The children are tasked with recalling 25 multiplication and division facts which run all the way to 12 x 12.

It is an integral part of the curriculum and Brocks Hill pupils regularly practice their times tables, both in school and at home to solidify their understanding. A firm grasp of multiplication and division is essential not only for pupils’ academic benefit, but also to accomplish tasks in everyday life.

The Year 4 cohort of 2023 managed to achieve an average score of 24.7 out of 25, a fantastic achievement and one that saw Brocks Hill acknowledged as one of the country’s top 200 performing schools for the second successive year.

As recognition of this stunning result, The Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP – Minister for Schools – wrote a letter to Head of School Mrs Shilling.

“I would like to congratulate your staff and pupils for their hard word and to thank you for your leadership in continuing to promote the important subject of mathematics,” he said.

“This excellent achievement of your pupils is something the Government hopes to see replicated in schools across the country.”
