NHS National Competition Winner

A huge congratulations to Diasha from Class 5 at Brocks Hill Primary School, who recently won the East Midlands Schools ‘Step into the NHS’ competition.

An annual event, this national competition tasked primary school children to create something that demonstrated the variety of job roles that exist within the NHS.

It was designed to raise career aspirations and challenge gender stereotyping; such as the assumption that men cannot be nurses and midwifes.

The brief was vague and the children were encouraged to be creative, unique and to use their imagination; there were a variety of entries including collages, painting, poems and even stories!

Diasha, though, used her artistic skills to produce three cardboard pillars, each one donning a letter of the NHS and decorated with an array of colourful drawings, illustrating the multitude of careers than exist within the National Health Service.

The judges commended her effort, saying: "We thought the three pillars was a really impressive design and a very creative way to showcase the range of NHS careers.”

Diasha’s victory is Brocks Hill’s third winner in the last four years and she was one of only 10 regional winners in the primary school category.

Well done!
